OASIIS and Cofact Thailand Join Forces to Advance Fact-Checking and Verification Standards in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand | 2–3 October 2026

The Oceania-Asia Society for Information Integrity and Safety (OASIIS) marked an important milestone with its inaugural event, the OASIIS x Cofact Workshop in Bangkok, co-hosted with Cofact Thailand and supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom Thailand.

Held on 2–3 October 2026 at Novotel Siam, Bangkok, the workshop brought together fact-checkers, media professionals, and experts to strengthen fact-checking and verification practices in line with international standards.

Advancing Verification in a Changing Information Landscape

The programme opened with a public forum exploring the future of verification and public trust. OASIIS member Professor Masato Kajimoto of ANNIE Lab delivered a keynote address titled “The Verification Standards & the Future of Public Trust.”

A panel discussion, “Next Frontiers of Fact-Checking: Outpacing Algorithms and Synthetic Media,” brought together representatives from fact-checking and media organisations to discuss emerging challenges posed by algorithms and synthetic media.

From Knowledge Sharing to Practical Collaboration

The workshop continued with an introduction to OASIIS and its IFCN-certified members, highlighting the expertise and experience within the regional fact-checking community.

Hands-on sessions focused on two key areas: fact-checking claims and narratives, and responsible AI and the verification of AI-generated content. These sessions provided opportunities for participants to exchange approaches, discuss practical challenges, and explore ways to strengthen verification practices.

OASIIS members contributed throughout the programme, including Professor Masato Kajimoto, Jency Jacob of BOOM, Septiaji Eko Nugroho of Mafindo, and Parul Goswami of DataLeads.

Building Partnerships for Information Integrity

On the second day, the programme included a consultation meeting on IFCN certification, discussions on future collaboration, and a Cofact Live Talk exploring the next frontier of fact-checking with the OASIIS team.

The event provided an opportunity to strengthen connections between OASIIS and Thai fact-checking and media organisations, while encouraging continued cooperation on information integrity and safety across the region.

A Milestone for OASIIS

As its inaugural event, the OASIIS x Cofact Workshop represents an important step in bringing the organisation's regional network together through practical knowledge exchange, professional collaboration, and shared commitment to trustworthy information.

Through partnerships with fact-checking organisations and media professionals, OASIIS continues to support efforts to strengthen verification standards and address evolving information challenges across Asia and the Pacific.
